Raw-edge appliqué is a fast and flexible appliqué method (and my favorite!), but how do you avoid the edges fraying? This video will show you how to beautifully finish those raw-edges with a satin stitch. I love the crisp finish that a satin stitch provides, and, unlike a blanket or zig-zag stitch, it seals all the raw-edges, so you won't see any fraying -- even after being laundered. No need to reverse your image or turn under any edges!
This was from my recent appearance on Creative Living with Sheryl Borden. These segments will be airing on PBS stations this Fall and next Spring, but Sheryl was sweet enough to let me share them early with you!
Satin stitching, like anything else, takes practice. The more you do it, the better your stitch will be. I can, however, save you a lot of time and help you to master the satin stitch much quicker -- click on the button below to download my FREE satin stitching pro tips! Save them to your devise or print them off to use as reference the next time you're appliqué-ing.
I'd love to hear from you! Do you have a favorite machine appliqué stitch? Is there another stitch or technique you'd like to learn?

I bought your book today. Hope to get videos one day that you sell on a CD. I live in a very remote
area so need to follow your narrative. I’m a retired elementary teacher and new to quilting.
Let me know when a CD is available. Joining Vimeo is not an option.
QUESTION: May I design an ocean/beach landscape to prepare for your appliqué ? It’s a bit
different than a skyline portrait. It seems that colors are more muted gradually.
Please reply. Thank you so much, Judith Christensen
