This tablet case took me only about an hour or so to make-- super fast and so cute! I love these as gifts too-- you could also change the size and make it a laptop case or multi-purpose pouch. All of my digital Scrappy Appliqué patterns include 4 different sizes, from mini-large. I used the small sized template for this one. So grab your favorite pattern, and let's make a pouch!
1 yd stabilizer, like Sulky Totally Stable (not needed if you are using canvas for the outside fabric)
1/2 yd fabric for outside + 1/2 yd fabric for lining, or 4 fat quarters
Craft size batting
1 zipper 2" longer than the width of your tablet
Clear thread, coordinating thread -- my favorite is Aurifil 50 wt.
Directions:
Prepare the appliqué piece (size small) according to the instructions in the pattern.
Cut 4 panels (2 outer fabric, 2 lining fabric) 4" wider and longer than your tablet.
Satin stitch the appliqué piece to one of the outer panels, centered.
I wanted my pouch to be extra cushioned, so I folder my batting over, making it double layered. Lay your outer fabric on top of the folded over batting, right side up. Baste as desired (with safety pins, spray, or thread).
Quilt the panel however you like. You will not have any backing since we'll add lining later (this feels strange, but works fine. If you'd prefer to use some scrap fabric for a backing, you absolutely can). I had fun with this quilting pattern-- first I quilted random lines across the panel, breaking it into sections, then I quilted straight lines in each section, changing the angle of the lines for each. I did it in free motion (so it went quickly) and I didn't worry about the lines being perfectly straight or evenly spaced-- I think the imperfections make it more interesting.
Repeat step 4 & 5 for the second panel.
I used this tutorial to install the zippers and finish the project. If I make this again, I may add a pocket in the lining.
