How to Develop your Own Unique Quilt-making Style

How to Develop your Own Unique Quilt-making Style

How you see the world is 100% unique.

You are the only person in all of human history with your very particular collection of experiences, influences, and characteristics. No one has seen the particular landscapes you've seen and read all the same books you have or has had all the same relationships.

And it's because of this that there are things to be made that only you can make.

As quilters, each quilt we make, whether we realize it or not, is a result of those experiences. Maybe pastels make you feel excited and happy because you went to the south of France for your honeymoon, and the pastel buildings were so memorable.

Maybe you grew up in Arizona and are able to see 54 different shades in a desert landscape. Maybe you live in chilly, upstate New York so you can't get enough of that exotic palm tree motif.

Even quilts made from precut fabrics or kits are a result of those experiences that make you you. Maybe the fabrics in that jelly roll all have red in them which always makes you think of your mother, since that was her favorite color. Or that fat quarter bundle of florals just delights your gardener's heart.

Whatever it is that totally delights you, that makes you ache (that good kind of ache) and want to dance around -- pay attention to it.

If you are someone who has ever said, "I'm not creative." or "I'm not artistic." I'd like to call you on that.

I love this quote by author Elizabeth Gilbert,

“If you’re alive, you’re a creative person. You and I and everyone you know are descended from tens of thousands of years of makers. Decorators, tinkerers, storytellers, dancers, explorers, fiddlers, drummers, builders, growers, problem-solvers, and embellishers—these are our common ancestors.”

There is no-one on the planet like you.

No one can or will ever make the quilts that you will make.

You are creative down to your bones.

To your marrow.

You can take that uniqueness and that collection of experiences and influences and develop a style that is so uniquely your own, that when the women at your guild or your Instagram followers see one of your quilts, even before they see who made it, they know it is yours because it is so you

I'd like to invite you on a journey to uncover that style. I'm hosting a FREE workshop on that very topic: The Quilt Style Workshop, which is all about developing your unique quilt-making style as well as mastering color. I'd love for you to join us. Grab your spot now!
