Modern Applique Illusions Blog Tour

Modern Applique Illusions Blog Tour

Today I have the pleasure of being apart of the Modern Applique Illusions Blog Tour! Modern Applique Illusions by Casey York just came out and is breathtaking!

Casey plays with perspective to create really lovely and dynamic quilt designs.  I had the pleasure of meeting Casey at quilt market this year, and she is such a sweetheart with a strong passion and drive for this craft. I love the illusion and depth she creates with the projects in her book: each is lovelier than the last! I especially love how she hand embroiders around a lot of the raw edges.

Upward When Casey asked me to be apart of her blog tour, she allowed me to choose which project to make. This was a tough choice, but Flight Plan ultimately won my heart.
Flight Plan
I love everything about it, from the curvy, billowing clouds, to the quilting. I loved the color scheme so much that I couldn't stray too far from the colors she chose. I did add a scrappy sky, just to see the effect.
Shannon's Flight Plan Quilt

It is teeny tiny. It is 25% of the pattern size-- so around 7.5" x 10". The planes are itty bitty and pretty sweet. Now it's giveaway time! Casey is giving away a copy of her wonderful book! Just leave a comment about your thoughts/experience with applique. Is it a scary word? Do you love it? Hate it? Eager to try it out?  **Giveaway closed**

Check out the other stops on the tour (each person made a different project from the book) as well as Casey's blog for more giveaways every day of the tour!

I’ve only had a couple experiences with appliqué. I had no idea what I was doing so I could really use some lessons. I love the idea of using perspective in modern quilting too. Casey’s designs are genius :)

I’ve only done fusible applique but it’s hard to find a product that doesn’t have a stiff and inflexible end result!
Great quilt!

I’ll admit that I’m a little intimadated by it. Lots of steps to do!

I love the look of applique! I like to use machine applique for some things, needle turn for others. However, in the interest of getting things done in a reasonable time frame, I usually use applique as an accent to go along with piecing.

Love appliqué BUT so time consuming
Cause I don’t do machine appliqué!!
