Today I have the pleasure of being apart of the Modern Applique Illusions Blog Tour!
Modern Applique Illusions by
Casey York just came out and is breathtaking!
Casey plays with perspective to create really lovely and dynamic quilt designs. I had the pleasure of meeting Casey at quilt market this year, and she is such a sweetheart with a strong passion and drive for this craft. I love the illusion and depth she creates with the projects in her book: each is lovelier than the last! I especially love how she hand embroiders around a lot of the raw edges.

Upward When Casey asked me to be apart of her blog tour, she allowed me to choose which project to make. This was a tough choice, but Flight Plan ultimately won my heart.
I love everything about it, from the curvy, billowing clouds, to the quilting. I loved the color scheme so much that I couldn't stray too far from the colors she chose. I did add a scrappy sky, just to see the effect.
It is teeny tiny. It is 25% of the pattern size-- so around 7.5" x 10". The planes are itty bitty and pretty sweet. Now it's giveaway time! Casey is giving away a copy of her wonderful book! Just leave a comment about your thoughts/experience with applique. Is it a scary word? Do you love it? Hate it? Eager to try it out? **Giveaway closed**
Check out the other stops on the tour (each person made a different project from the book) as well as Casey's blog for more giveaways every day of the tour!

I really like machine stitched applique. I don’t have the time or inclination to hand sew a quilt top. cdahlgren at live dot com
Casey spoke at our guild last night. She was amazing! I love her book and I love applique.
Applique, you say? I love it when I use my embroidery machine (aka digitized designs), but as far as me hand-cutting and stitching on my own, either hand-stitched or by machine, I cringe! I tried to make an owl quilt a while back with applique and it came out so stiff, I could almost stand it up against the wall. I learned a lot, but need to practice to gain more confidence. I adore the look!
I’ve done a few projects. Fusible interfacing takes a lot of the fear out of the process. Thanks for the nice giveaway.
I need to improve my applique skills. Curves are an issue for me! I need to practice more.
